 In the era of information and technology, the internet has been flooded with tons of information due to which concentrating on a single task has become difficult. Right? If I ask you, do you remember which article you viewed before reading this blog?....... the answer would give you a view of your concentration and memory power. You might be reading this blog but there are chances that you would not remember what you just read the next minute you finish it. This is because lack of concentration which can eventually decrease your memory power. 

Let me quiz you a little bit, so, Mary's mother has four daughters Rose, Diana and Purple. What is the name of the fourth daughter? ............   The answer is within the question .... This quiz was meant to check your concentrating ability. Concentration plays a vital role in improving your memory power. The more you concentrate the more your memory would sharpen. So, Rule No. 1 is focus, focus and focus!

Stop multitasking! 

Let us suppose, you are writing your assignment at the same time attending your online tutorial and after every ten minutes, you look at your television not to miss the plot twist of your favourite tv serial. Would you be able to focus on your assignment or the other things which you are doing simultaneously? This attitude of multitasking hinders you to focus on a single task with full of your concentration and peace of mind. So, it is essential to stop it! 

Focus solely on what you are doing now!
 And do it with full of your concentration. as you are reading this blog now concentrate on it.

How to increase memory power naturally?

You don't have to depend on any type of 'memory improving tonic' to improve your memory. Remember, remarkable outcomes can be made through tiny changes. So with this thought, let us view which are those tiny changes needed to improve your memory power naturally.
  • Healthy breakfast. Starting your day with a power-packed breakfast full of nutrients can provide you with the necessary energy to combat the obstacles in your way. 
  • 20 minutes of exercise is essential. Just 20 minutes of walking or yoga can provide a stimulus to your brain necessary for improving your concentration and memory power. 
  • A short nap a day keeps the worries awayA short nap in a day of 20 to 90 minutes can recharge your body, relieve stress and provide better focus in your work.
  • Learn something new. Learning something new challenging stimulates your brain to concentrate on the task and thereby improves memory power.  
  • Meditation. Meditation allows us for self-analysis, provides peace of mind and improves concentration.

 Which foods should you eat to sharpen your memory?

Could you focus on your work if you are hungry? Obviously not. Right?...... Foods not only fuel us but also mentally and physically prepare us to focus on our task.

Inculcating a healthy eating habit can allow you to enjoy every moment of your life fruitfully by keeping you physically as well as mentally fit. 
  • Fish and Fish oil supplements. Fishes have a huge source of omega 3 fatty acids which is beneficial for various things ranging from anxiety and depression, eye health to mental disorders.
  • Nuts and Chocolates. Chocolates and nuts are filled with Vitamin E essential for the nourishment of mind and body.
  • Another set of foods which should be included in your diet to sharpen your memory are avocados and whole-grain foods like barley, brown rice, whole wheat bread  help to lower the risk of several diseases like type 2 diabetes and many more. 
  • Blueberries are ' Brain berries'  the antioxidants in blueberry can help to maintain brain functions and improve memory.
  • Include Vitamin E rich foods like sweet potato, spinach, oranges, carrots, milk, almonds and turmeric can help in sharpening your memory.

Avoid these foods! 

  • Sugar: the sweet danger. Regular consumption of too much sugar increases the risk of hypertension , depression, low immune system and many more life-endangering ailments.
  • Eradicate refined carbs. Refined carbs food like cakes, cookies, white rice etc. etc, have become an inevitable part of modern life.  Refined carbs have a high glycemic index which makes these food materials easily digestible  but increases the blood sugar in our body which can lead to numerous diseases like type 2 diabetes, obesity, etc.

Which mental exercises can help in improving your memory ? 

If you want to make biceps you will work on your body. The same way when you want to improve your memory you have to work on your mind ! 

  • Inhale and exhale . Yes, you read it right. you don't have to to  do a headstand for improving your memory. Just by doing this small breathing activity you can nourish your brain and allow it to rejuvenate by providing an adequate amount of oxygen supply to it.
  • Challenge yourself to learn what you don't . Challenges can further improve your concentration in the work and also motivate you to keep going .
  • Engage your senses. By engaging your senses of sound, sight, smell, taste and touch in your task you can improve your concentration and learn anything easily.
  • Learn vocabulary. Learn a new word every day and use that word five times in your day . Your word for today is 'impeccable' which means 'flawless'. Come on use them in your own sentence and comment down below .
  • The next time you meet a person focus on him . I read a beautiful book 'How to win friends and influence people' by Dale Carnegie in that book the author shares one of his habit which allows him to build friendship and trust. He always focuses on the person he meets and asks them a little question about themselves like what is your birthdate? And when he returns home he writes it down with the person's name and wishes them on their birthday. So, the next time you meet someone focus on them!  
  • Learn to teach. Yes, you should be able to make people understand what you are trying to convey. For example, I am communicating with you through my words and you are understanding it. This task of teaching someone else challenges your mind to be focused. So, be focused!

How to improve memory and concentration in students?

 I have come up with 5 insanely practical tips to improve concentration and memory in students .So, stay tuned.
  • Sleep. Sleep rejuvenates and refreshes our mind and body. It is extremely important to have adequate amount of sleep before studying.  7 to 8 hours of sleep is essential for every student to have complete focus while studying.
  • Visualization for complete comprehension. Students get immensely influenced through visual than verbal. So, it is recommended to use visual ways of teachings as it broadens the perspective of the pupils and thereby contributes to creating a visual touch with students.
  • Active learning. Active way of learning allows students to participate in discussions, form groups and present their views on the topic. It is extremely important for the overall development of students. 
  • Review your study material before sleeping. Studies have found out that the last thing viewed by us before sleeping has a lasting effect on our memory and doesn't fade easily.
  •  Relate things with the things you already know. Relating things with our previous knowledge can help the students to remember core concepts by relating them with simpler one they already knew.
In a nutshell: To improve your memory concentrate first! Follow a healthy diet, eat well-balanced food and sleep properly and you are well on your way of improving your memory power.
